Sven van Beek (July 28, 1994), started playing football at SV Donk, in his birthplace Gouda. After being part of Feyenoord’s youth academy for eight years, he signed his first professional contract in January 2013. Nowadays, he is one of the main team members in Rotterdam. Sven mostly plays as a centre-back.
Sven’s first professional club was Sparta Rotterdam. Sparta noticed his potential at one of their talent days. After one year, Sven moved to the south side of Rotterdam to play in the youth academy of Feyenoord. The club turned the talented attacker into a defender in his first year.
Although he had a difficult time as a youth player, the defender worked hard to achieve his goal: playing for Feyenoord’s first team. In January 2013, his hard work paid off. Sven signed his first contract and two weeks later, he made his official debut in the cup match against one of Feyenoord’s rivals, PSV. Manager Ronald Koeman made the young defender an official first team member after his first match. The game against PSV was his only match in the 2012/2013 season. Sven played fifteen games in the following year, including his league debut against Feyenoord’s biggest rival, Ajax. He played his first match for the national U21 team as well.
Sven was part of the starting eleven since the start of the 2014/2015 season. The defender played more than 40 games during the season and scored an important goal in the Europa League against Standard Luik. Sven signed a new three-year contract in February 2015. He played a key role in Feyenoord’s winning of the 2016 Dutch Cup final, in which Feyenoord defeated FC Utrecht: 2-1.
